TEW Galleries is pleased to present an exhibition of recent mixed media paintings by Dane Carder.

Inspired by anonymous 17th century Tantric paintings, Dane Carder creates artworks focused on a singular oval shape. He calls these Meditations because like a mandala, the oval serves as a focal point, allowing the mind to stand in opposition to ‘the crazy state of the world.’ The nuanced imagery—what he calls a visual haiku—hints at meaning through symbol and imperfection, depicting vast universal concepts as essential elements. In this way the works draw the viewer’s attention to a sense of shared humanity, sometimes with irony, at others with levity, the titles too, communicate larger ideas. For example, in a painting titled “Make Waves,” Carder suggests we should get out and live. In “The Effect of Drips,” he makes reference to how a continual drip can have a huge effect, from flooding a house to building a huge enterprise.
